Paul Reiss was the cantor of Congregation B’nai Jacob in Charleston, West Virginia, from 1949 until his untimely death on January 31, 1968. He was musically trained and had aspirations to an operatic career as a tenor. He also served as a teacher, choir director, National Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY) adviser, and organizer of the synagogue’s basketball team.
