Cantor Emanuel Hollander

Cantor Emanuel Hollander was born in Odessa. At his bar-mitzvah he officiated as a cantor for a congregation of 500. He studied voice with the Italian baritone Mario Sammarco and appeared in leading roles in the Grand Opera of Borisoff in Odessa.  Upon his arrival in New York, he joined the Manhattan Grand Opera of New York. He recorded Russian folksongs for Edison records in 1911.
He has held prominent cantorial positions at Shaarei Torah of Flatbush (Brooklyn, NY), Emanuel Synagogue (Mt. Vernon, NY), and Temple Beth-El (Utica, NY) where he served from 1925 to 1940. In 1947, he was cantor of Congregation Bnei Yechiel Aschkenazi in Brooklyn, NY.
